HP DV9000 LAPTOP

These machines are notorious for over heating. The Intel models also have a problem with the Nvidia GO7600 video drivers. That causes the screen to go blank. Anyway I have replaced 2 motherboards on this model (DV9000) this month. Both had the over heating problem. Let me know if you have a fix for the video issue.

Antivirus System Pro Trojan

This is one of those fake alerts that starts scanning your computer and telling you that your PC is infected. It won’t let you run any programs or open the task manager. I just had three PC’s come to me with this problem. I ended up having to take out the hard drives and deleting the the folder containing this thing. Then scanning the drive with Malwarebytes’ to get rid of it. It’s a bad one and can render you helpless. Just thought I would give everyone a heads up. It seems to be going around.

Hard Drive in the Freezer Fix

Well I always thought this was a myth but it worked for me. I have a hard drive that just quit working. The computer reconized it in the Device Manager but it wouldn’t show up in My Computer. I tried connecting it with a USB adapter and setting up as a slave on an ide cable. As a last ditch effort I tried putting it in the freezer for 4 hours. I then conncted it as a master on ide 2 and it worked. I was able to save all the files from the drive. It still works after it thawed out.

Windows Easy Transfer not so easy

Tried transfering files from XP to Vista yesterday. It kept stopping on a file named gobackoi.bin. I’ve done this many times but this time it didn’t work. I sure wish there was an option to skip the file instead of restarting the transfer.
